Schengen Visa Requirements for Indian Citizens

You have to submit a number of documents when applying for a Schengen visa application. Look below for all crucial documents that you need:

  • Download and fill the Schengen visa application form completely.
  • Check your passport for the expiry date. You must renew your passport before you travel if your travel itinerary is in between the six months of your passport’s expiry date. Your passport must have two blank pages and must not have any handwritten bio as they are not valid now.
  • Passport-size photographs. Check exact dimensions of the photographs as per your visa requirements.
  • Personal covering letter describing your purpose of travel and all itinerary details.
  • You need an introduction letter from your employer or company if you are employed. The letter must be original, signed, and stamped by your company professionals. The letter must also mention a “no objection statement,” dates, and purpose of your planned Schengen trip.      
  • You must get the last three months salary slips, bank statements, and your personal Indian Income Tax return (ITR) for the last two assessment years, if your employed with a company.
  • If you own a company, or self employed, then you must have your business registration certificate or a proof of partnership/ownership. You also need the last three months business and personal bank statements, and your business’s ITR for the last two assessment years.
  • You must get your last three months pension statements, if you are retired. You also need proof for your regular income generated by ownership of your property/business.
  • You must get a travel insurance with a coverage of 30,000 euros (USD 50,000 per person). Contact us for any information on travel insurance and get one.
  • Copy of your flight tickets from India, your travel tickets within the Schengen area, accommodation tickets or your hotel bookings, package tours, and proof of your communication like train tickets or car rentals, etc.
  • Your parents/guardians must provide their personal bank statements for the last three months, their personal ITR for the last two years, copy of their passports, and a confirmation letter of financial support, if you are a student/unemployed.
  • Proof of your civil status (birth certificate of children, ration card, marriage certificate, death certificate of spouse if applicable).
  • Proof of enough financial source for support of your stay in the Schengen area.
  • Few Schengen countries require colour or black-and-white photocopies of your passport. So, check properly before you travel.
  • Carry the amount needed for visa fee payment. Carry cash as most of the countries prefer cash mode.

Visa fees are waived off for Indian:

  • Children with age less than 6 years.
  • Graduate, postgraduate students, and accompanying children who travel for study purposes or an educational training.
  • Researchers traveling for their research work or scientific research.
  • Up to 25 year old representatives of the non-profit organizations who travel as participants in sports, conferences, seminars, and educational or cultural events by other non-profit organizations.
  • Diplomatic and service passport holders (visa fee may be waived off).
