Anyone from the UK who holds UK passports are fully authorized to travel visa free into any schengen country and especially to Sweden they don’t need a visa. However the residents who are living in the UK who are from non EU countries still need a Sweden visa to travel to Sweden.

Due to this policy there is a drop in the visitors travelling into schengen countries by non EU travelers and hence there is somewhat ease in the norms of the visa policies.

Now let’s see of whom can actually apply for Sweden visa from the UK:

Anyone who is residing in UK and have a valid residence permit can enter Sweden on a valid Sweden visa. Ensure your residence permit is valid for three or more months to qualify for Sweden visa. In case you are holding a UK visa that is about to expire in the next three months, it is advisable to extend your visa and then apply for Sweden visa.

While applying for Sweden Visa, apply for it at the Sweden Consulate or Embassy and also authorized Swedish visa processing center.

Your destination should be Sweden or your first place of landing should be Sweden in a case where you want to submit your visa application. Since you are going to spend your time in Sweden at first of the other schengen countries, you need to apply it at Sweden embassy only.

If you are going to stay in the country for more than 90 days then you need a Swedish residency permit which is different from the regular Schengen visa.

Remember if you are a member who is not from the UK then you need to apply for Swedish visa from your nearest Swedish Consulate or VAC in your country.

You need to carry a valid passport that was issued for 10 years validity with at least three months gap to expire.

You need to have at least two blank pages left for the visa stamping.

Also carry a valid resident permit ID if not mentioned on the passport, your biometric ID card of the resident permit will do. Ensure you have three months to expire on resident permit before you leave to Sweden.

Next step is to fill out the form for Swedish visa application, stick your photograph, duly filled and signed by the applicant. Biometrics is mandatory and would have been given at least within the last 59 months.

You need to also have a cover letter prepared explaining the purpose of your visit. Proofs of your flight itinerary and arranged accommodation mentioning a plan to visit the schengen and non schengen countries have to be submitted.

A Travel Insurance with coverage of 30000 Euros for schengen and non schengen countries to travel. However, for those of diplomats and their family members of EU don’t have to show any Insurance.

Another important fact that visa officer takes decision on your visa based on your financial subsistence in your UK bank account of SEK 450. If not you may show travelers cheque and sponsors fund in case your travel is based on invitation by someone living in Sweden already.

All the documents discussed above are mandatory to obtain a visa unless a little change happens in case you are employed.

Any document you are going to submit must be less than 1 month old.

If you are an employee from UK, submit employment letter, bank statement for proof of funds, authorization from the employer and any ITR statement.

In case of self employment, submit documents of your business registration with ITR. If you are a student, submit documents related to University or school enrolment letter and Transfer certificate like no objection letter. If you are retiree, just provide the proof of 6 months of pension statement.

If you are married to an EU citizen, then submit documents related to his employment for three months where he held his position in the organization. This is needed in case you are unemployed and married to a Europe citizen.

If you are applying visa for the minor, parental authorized notary should be submitted, and from head of the school where the minor is schooling. In this case one of the parents is residing outside UK in Europe, one of parents permission should be in parental travel consent authorizing the travel of minor.

The Procedure to apply from the UK

First figure out the kind of visa you want.

Arrange necessary documents.

Find out your nearest VAC center or Swedish consulate.

Book an appointment.

Submit all required documents.

Pay the fee.

Wait for the Visa status.

Give at least 15 days of time to process your application, before you want to travel to Sweden.

Pay Sweden visa fee for adults as 60 Euros and for children 35 Euros who are between 6 to 12 years of age. For below 6 years old no need to pay the fee.

Once you make the payment for visa and it is refused then amount is non refundable. However if you wanted to appeal, you can do that within 3 weeks of visa processed.

To appeal you can do it yourself or authorize a family member or any authorized lawyer.

Visa can be issued at the maximum in 15 days and a minimum of same day but this decision lies with the Consulate and it is generally done in the case of medical emergency.
